All hearing aids can be cleaned with cleaning wipes specifically designed for hearing aids. Regular cleaning is important to prevent the buildup of germs.
It is crucial not to clean your hearing aid under running water, as it contains sensitive electronics. If your hearing aid uses batteries, be sure to remove them before cleaning.
Since the earmold (or earpiece) sits in the ear canal and has direct contact with the body, it requires thorough cleaning.
The earmold should be cleaned every 2-3 days, or as needed. Follow these steps to properly clean it:
1.Detach the earmold tubing from your hearing aid and place the earmold in the designated cleaning container.
2.Add a cleaning tablet to the container and fill it with water.
3.Let the earmold soak in the cleaning solution for about 30 minutes.
4.Remove the earmold and rinse it under clean water.
5.Dry the earmold with a tissue and use the blower to remove any remaining water from the tubing and ventilation hole.
6.Reattach the earmold tubing to the hearing aid, ensuring it is properly aligned.
If your hearing aid uses a dome instead of an earmold, gently remove it. The dome can be cleaned under running water. Ensure that the dome is completely dry before placing it back onto the speaker. A blower is ideal for drying.
Many hearing aid models feature a filter in front of the speaker. If this filter becomes clogged with earwax, the hearing aid will not function properly. Therefore, it is important to change the filter regularly. Contact your hearing care professional to replace the filter.
Regular cleaning and maintenance will help ensure that your hearing aids function at their best and prolong their lifespan.
